Reply with quote | #1 | There are quite a few events before this one, but I wanted to get some information out on it now. This ride is on the Columbus Day weekend on the Cheese Country Trail, which runs from Mineral Point to Monroe in Southern Wisconsin.
I talked to Don Noble, the Trail Boss for the Green County ATV Club in Monroe, and he told me that there are going to be several large groups in town that weekend, including one from Illinois that will be about 250 people.
Don recommended that anybody wanting to have a hotel room that weekend make a reservation ASAP. I know that the new Super 8 in Darlington is fully booked, and the hotels in Monroe are showing limited room choices. The campground in Darlington will most likely be full by that Wed or Thurs evening, so that may not be an option. The campground in Gratiot has been improved, and bathrooms are under construction. There are hotels in Mineral Point and Shullsburg as well.
It should be a beautiful fall weekend for a family ride. I'll get more information posted as the time gets closer. You can visit either of these web sites for information on the trail and area:

Reply with quote | #2 | For those of you interested in this ride, we will be meeting in Darlington at the parking lot by the campground. It is behind Annies Bar & Grill. Use the address of 300 Washington St, Darlington, WI 53530 for Mapquest.
Be ready to ride at 10:00. I know that is a little later than usual, but that way you can drive down Saturday morning without having to get up at 5:00 a.m.
Please look at this website before leaving home to make sure the trail is OPEN: http://www.tricountytrails.com. Click the "Home" option of the index on the left and it will take you to the Trail Announcements page which will tell you if the main trail and the Lafayette County side trail to Fayette are open. I will post an update here if I find out that the trail will be closed for any reason. __________________ Martha |

Reply with quote | #3 | Weather forecast for Saturday is for high 40's and partly sunny. Sounds like great riding weather - at least for those of us who have heated hand grips.
I just checked the tricountrytrails website, and the Cheese Trail and the side trails are all currently open.
For those of you looking for accommodations, the Americinn in Monroe had a couple of rooms left, but the other hotels in the area are all booked.
Because of the new puppy at my house (thanks Vicki), we will be driving down Saturday morning for the day only. I will have maps and info at the meeting Thursday night, which you can easily obtain from the websites mentioned above.
Please let me know if you plan on being in Darlington so we don't leave anybody behind. Thanks.

We'll probably bring her. She weighed 3.2 pounds at the vet today. __________________ Martha |

For those of you asking for a winter ride at the last meeting, where were you on Saturday? It was snowing when we left the campground in Darlington at 10:00. I think it got up to all of 37 degrees with a wicked wind. Rode to Mineral Point, stopped to warm up and have lunch, rode back and put the machines on the trailer. Didn't think I needed snowmobile gear in October - should have known better - this is Wisconsin after all. __________________ Martha |

Jangles and Camoclown had a good time riding in a poker run close to but not too close to Adams. Wait til you hear those stories~!!! Sounds like we'll get to meet the group from that location at our own Poker Run in January... __________________ Wish I knew how some people ticked and glad I don't know about others! |
